The first weekend module was held at the Managers Academy

The Minister of Education and Science, Mr Pance Kralev and the President of the Chambers of Commerce, Mr Zlatko Kalenikov attended the first weekend lecture of the Managers Academy, which began with the first module of the program Strategic Management: Strategic Management for Small And Medium Enterprises – Building and Sustaining Competitive Advantage.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Emanuel Gomes, distinguished professor of strategy and international business management at the University of Sheffield.

“Macedonian managers seem to have huge potential to succeed in Macedonian as well as in other international markets. During the lectures, I managed to observe that they have an excellent ability to learn and also revealed great managerial skills, which if enhanced, will help them achieve better results in the future”, said Professor Gomes.

Kalenikov, as a representative of the business community pointed out that the purpose for the establishment of the Academy is to create competitive companies in the domestic and foreign market, through additional training for their managers. Macedonian managers, pointed the President of the Chambers - will learn how to deal with the crisis and how to implement new, western system technologies in their companies.

"We would like to bring the strategic management to a higher level. I advise all enterprises, primarily export, service and trade, to enrol their managers at the Academy, because this is one of the best ways for their companies to become more competitive in both the domestic and foreign markets. This is an extremely important project for the Macedonian economy and should be acceptable for any company that wants to succeed and innovate", said Kalenikov.

The Minister for education and science, Mr Kralev noted that the ministry now assigned ten scholarships for the first four modules offered in the Finance, Strategic Management and Strategic Marketing tracks. This represents the first round of direct aid to 40 Macedonian companies, with the intention for the next year to expand and to increase the number of scholarships. According to him, the advantage of these classes is taking place on weekends when managers do not work activities carried out by professors from reputable universities, as the University of Sheffield.

"This is a complement to the education previously acquired - through interactive lectures with real-life examples and matters of current work in the companies the students come from. In our country there is a shortage of skilled personnel. In the future we plan to introduce more practical subjects in the secondary education, and less theoretical classes. The reforms will allow people to engage more easily when they start their jobs and professional careers", said Kralev.

The Managers’ Academy is established under the academic authority of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, in collaboration with the Macedonian Chambers of Commerce and supported by the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science.

The core element of the Managers Academy is vocational training and qualifications attainment, including numerous complementary services that will benefit its members and advance their professional skills and status.
